Berea College Jumps to the Top of 2014-15 USCAA Director's Cup Standings

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The winter season has brought considerable change atop the USCAA’s 2014-15 Director’s Cup standings. Beginning the winter in fifth place, the Berea College Mountaineers are now atop the leaderboard with 511.5 points. During the winter Berea College secured top three finishes in Men’s and Women’s Division I basketball, helping them to ascend to the top of the standings.

After finishing the fall in ninth, Daemen College jumps all the way to second place. The Wildcats, the 2014 Director’s Cup champion, had another strong winter season earning National Championships in Men’s and Women’s Division I basketball. Daemen College checks in with 480 points overall, and leads all institutions with three National Championships on the season.

Moving up one spot to third in the Director’s Cup standings with 460 points is Alfred State College. The Pioneers’ women’s basketball team earned a tied for third place finish during the USCAA Basketball National Championships, and have also earned points in Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country, Volleyball, and Women’s Soccer National Championships, as well as the USCAA Wrestling Invitational.

Rounding out the top five are West Virginia University Institute of Technology and Rochester College, respectively. WVU Tech, the winner of the USCAA Wrestling Invitational, finishes the winter with 443.5 points. Rochester checks in with 424.5 points after earning a second place finish in the Men’s Division I Basketball National Championships.

Director’s Cup points are awarded for number of sport offerings and are also based on results from USCAA National Championship events. The final standings will be released following the presentation of the 2015 Director’s Cup champion on June 8th at the USCAA National Convention.
