USCAA Welcomes SUNY-Delhi and Indiana University-South Bend

The United States Collegiate Athletic Association and its Board of Directors have announced the addition of two new full members for the 2014-15 academic year; SUNY-Delhi and Indiana University-South Bend.

“I am pleased with the addition of SUNY-Delhi and Indiana University South-Bend to the USCAA this August,” states USCAA Chief Operating Officer Matthew Simms. “These schools bring with them an outstanding historical background in academics and also in athletics and I expect they will be a strong competitive fit in the USCAA.”

SUNY–Delhi

From the state of New York, SUNY-Delhi joins as a dual member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). SUNY-Delhi was established in 1913 and in 2013 had an enrollment of 3,441 students. Nearly 80% of their students are active in either a club or intercollegiate sports team and annually total 20,000 hours of community service.

"SUNY Delhi is very excited and pleased to be a new member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. This is the next chapter in our college's athletic transition to four year athletics, particularly for our Men's and Women's Golf programs.” stated Athletic Director, Robert Backus.

 

SUNY-Delhi will offer a wide variety of sports including; Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Track and Field, Cross Country, Men’s Lacrosse, Men’s and Women’s Golf, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Swimming and Diving, Women’s Softball, and Women’s Volleyball.

Indiana University-South Bend

Indiana University-South Bend will be a dual affiliate with the NAIA and USCAA while remaining in the NAIA’s Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. With the NAIA they had nine women’s basketball players and two men’s basketball players named as All-Americans since 2008. The institution also had 12 student-athletes named All-CCAC Academic Honorees from the 2013-2014 year.

“We are very appreciative of the warm welcome the USCAA has extended to us and are looking forward to being a part of a growing, energetic, and integrity-based organization,” says Indiana University South-Bend Athletic Director Steve Bruce. “IU South Bend hopes to do our part, and add value both academically and athletically.”

Indiana University-South Bend started offering classes in 1916 and as grown to a current full-time enrollment of 3,649. The University offers over 100 different undergraduate degrees and several graduate degrees. Indiana University-South Bend was recognized as an NAIA Champions of Character in 2008-09, 2009-10, 2011-12, and 2012-13.

The institution has three sports teams that are offered to current students, men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball. In the fall of 2015 they will be adding men’s and women’s cross country and men’s golf to their sport offerings. The athletic program promotes the development of the total person through academic, life, and athletic skills.
