Daemen College Wins Second Consecutive Directors Cup

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – For a second consecutive season, Daemen College takes home the USCAA Director’s Cup. The Wildcats, won three fall championships, including women’s cross country, men’s golf and women’s volleyball. Daemen College finishes the year with 616 points, followed by Lindenwood University-Belleville with 467.5 points, and Rochester College in third place with 402 points.

In a repeat of the 2012 season, Daemen College started the year with a victory at the USCAA Golf National Championships. With five golfers in the top ten overall, the Wildcats defeated the second-place finisher Lindenwood University-Belleville by ten strokes.

Later in the fall, Daemen College took home a second consecutive women’s volleyball National Championship, defeating long-time USCAA power Florida College in a rematch of the 2012 finals. On that same weekend Daemen College’s women’s soccer team took home runner-up honors, falling to rival University of Maine-Fort Kent in another rematch from last year. The Wildcats completed their fall season with their first women’s cross country National Championship and a second-place finish in men’s cross country in Syracuse, NY.

Lindenwood University-Belleville entered the spring season in 9th place in the standings, but finished strong winning its second consecutive Softball National Championship and winning their first USCAA baseball championship. Both first place finishes propelled them to second in the Director’s Cup Standings. Additionally, the Lynx secured second in Men’s Golf and tied for fifth in Women’s Volleyball.

Taking home the third place plaque for the second consecutive year was Rochester College. Rochester finished third in Men’s Golf, fourth in Women’s Volleyball, fifth in Men’s Soccer, and tied for seventh in Baseball. Rounding out the top five were The Apprentice School (341) and SUNY ESF (337.5).

Daemen College was awarded the Director’s Cup by Executive Director Bill Casto during the opening session of the 2013 USCAA National Convention on Monday.

Director’s Cup points are awarded for number of sport offerings and are also based on results from USCAA National Championship events. The final top 20 standings are attached below.
