Dean College and The Crown College to Join USCAA in 2016-17

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association and its Board of Directors are pleased to announce the addition of two new members; Dean College and The Crown College. Both schools have been approved as full members starting in the 2016-17 academic year.

Dean College

A private institution from Franklin, Massachusetts, Dean College will be joining the USCAA next season. The institution was founded in 1865 and offers nine bachelor degrees and 17 associate degree programs. Dean College has been a longtime member of the NJCAA.

The institution has an enrollment of approximately 1,150 students and offers 14 intercollegiate sports; football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s volleyball, women's volleyball, baseball, softball, golf, men’s lacrosse, and women’s lacrosse. Dean College will be a Division I member of the USCAA.

“Dean College is honored to be a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA),” said Dean College Athletic Director Todd Vasey. “Being a member of this prestigious athletic governing body affords our student-athletes the opportunity to compete with similar athletic programs on a level playing field for both National Championships and student-athlete recognition. We are grateful for this outstanding opportunity.”

The Crown College

Located in Powell, Tennessee, The Crown College has joined the USCAA with membership beginning this summer for the 2016-17 academic year. The institution is an accredited bible college, trade school, and seminary that offers bachelor degrees with concentrations in pastoral ministry, youth ministry, missions, music ministry, Christian education, business, trades, and technology.

The Crown College has 515 full-time students on campus, and offers athletic programs in the sports of soccer, volleyball, and men’s basketball. They will be a Division II member of the USCAA.

 “The Crown College is excited about the many opportunities that our new membership with the USCAA offers for our student athletes,” remarked Athletic Director Michael Scoggins. “We have great respect for this organization, and we are confident that our partnership will be mutually beneficial. As an institution, we hope to assist the USCAA in reaching its many goals and objectives. We look forward to our new relationship with the USCAA and their unique ability to enhance our student athletic programs.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Dean College and The Crown College to the USCAA family,” states USCAA Executive Director Matt Simms. “Both schools are an outstanding fit for our association. Like all USCAA members, these are small colleges that seek the opportunity to compete against like institutions for national championships and student-athlete recognition, and we are glad to be the association that will afford them those opportunities.”

The United States Collegiate Athletic Association is a national organization that exists to provide quality athletic competition on a regional and national level. The USCAA focuses specifically on smaller institutions of higher learning and their student-athletes. The association believes that all athletes and programs deserve the same national opportunities as larger institutions, and seeks to provide that experience.
