NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA – SUNY Delhi Athletic Director, Bob Backus, has been named the 2015-2016 Garth Pleasant Honorary Athletic Director of the Year Award at the USCAA National Convention in Richmond, Virginia. Backus’ efforts in the sports of Track & Field, Swimming & Diving, service on USCAA committees, and for excellence and guidance in leading the SUNY-Delhi athletic department were cited in review of his accomplishments during the year.
Backus received the annual honor at the Convention’s Opening Session on Monday at the Richmond Marriott. Under his direction, SUNY Delhi hosted the USCAA’s first Track & Field Invitational since 2004 and first Swimming & Diving Invitational during the 2015-16 season. Backus’ leadership within those sports has expanded the USCAA’s National Championship and Invitational offerings to 15, a record high.

The USCAA’s Garth Pleasant Honorary Athletic Director of the Year award is an annual award bestowed upon an Athletic Director in the association who has made positive and meaningful contributions to their institution and the USCAA. The award is presented each year during the USCAA National Convention.
