NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA – With a surge in the spring sport season Rochester College will take the USCAA Director’s Cup home to Michigan. The win marks the school’s first Director’s Cup championship for the longtime USCAA institution.
The Warriors took part in six USCAA National Championship events during the year, including semifinal appearances in men’s and women’s basketball, and third place finishes at the Volleyball National Championship in Canton, NY and the Baseball Small College World Series in Glens Falls, NY. Rochester finished the year with 500 points.
Last year’s Director’s Cup winner Berea College finished the year second with 486 points, while also competing in six national championship events. Berea entered the spring season in first place, but didn’t record any points in baseball and softball allowing Rochester to slip into the top spot. In third place, the school’s highest finish ever, was Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences with 424.5 points.
Berea College swept the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country National Championships, which accounted for the bulk of the Mountaineers points in 2015-16. Four of the seven men’s cross country USCAA All-Americans were from Berea College and the Mountaineer’s top three runners all crossed the line within 20 seconds. Berea College also posted solid finishes in the USCAA Golf National Championship and USCAA Volleyball National Championship.
Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences participated in four USCAA National Championship events, finishing second in both the women’s soccer and women’s basketball tournaments. At the Cross Country National Championships, the school’s women’s team placed fourth, just a few seconds away from a top three finish.
Director’s Cup points are awarded for the number of sport offerings and are also based on results from USCAA National Championship events. The final top-20 Director’s Cup standings can be found below.
