IRVING, Texas – On Friday, November 10th, the University of Dallas held its second annual Veteran’s Day event. One of the special guests recognized was Marine Corps Lt. Col. (ret) Gary Morris. Morris created the artwork titled COURAGE and presented it to the university. Standing opposite of Morris by the piece of work is UD Board of Trustees member Terry O’Halloran, also a former Marine.

Morris was the first baseman for the University of Dallas baseball team from 1961 through 1964 and played on the first, 1964, school team to qualify for postseason play. Morris was part of the athletic department’s second Hall of Fame Class to be inducted into on February 19th, 1999. In 1964, Morris led the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in stolen bases. At the time of being inducted to the Hall of Fame, Morris was the school record holder for runs batted in for a game, stolen bases in a season and in a career (51), as well as career records for at bats (391), runs (103), and triples (8). Today he remains tied for the individual game record runs scored with five against Tarleton State on March 23rd, 1963.
