MEMORABLE COMEBACK CAPS HISTORIC FOOTBALL SEASON

On a wet, chilly Senior Day, late in the fourth quarter, trailing 8-0 since Community Christian College's first play from scrimmage, Williamson needed to get something going.  The team had struggled offensively all game due to muddy field conditions.  It was then however, that Williamson mounted a comeback for the ages, scoring 16 points in 12 seconds to come away with an improbable 16-8 victory over the Gators.

The win allowed Williamson to finish 7-1 on the year, the best record by a Williamson football team since 1983!  It also allowed them to finish no less than second, outright, in the Seaboard Conference, for the first time since winning the conference in 1996.

The win was anything but easy, though.  The teams played two barn burners the past two years, with Williamson winning 41-38 in 2016, and the Gators coming back to defeat Williamson 38-32 in double-overtime in 2017.  This year was another classic between the two programs.

Coming off an emotional loss to Valley Forge a week ago and being forced to play without two-year starting quarterback Vince DelPercio (SR/Middletown, DE) due to a broken ankle, as well as two starters on the offensive line, Williamson figured to start slow.  They did just that.  After going three and out and punting to the Gators, CCC running back Christian Fitzgerald went 65 yards for a TD on their first play from scrimmage to put them up 6-0.  They added the two-point conversion and were up 8-0.

Both teams struggled in the wet conditions, as between them, they combined for just 172 yards of offense in the first half.  Williamson head coach Dan Drake then decided to shake things up a bit in the second half, as he inserted senior wing back DeJuan Outlaw (SR/Elkton, MD) in at quarterback.  That move paid off in a big way, especially in the fourth quarter.

After forcing a Gator punt, Williamson go the ball at their won 45-yard line with 12:53 to play in regulation.  Outlaw and junior running back David Williams (JR/Philadelphia, PA) then went to work, as they helped spearhead a 9 play, 55-yard drive that lasted 6:08 and was capped off by a 13-yard run by Outlaw for a touchdown, aided by a big surge from his offensive line.  Williamson then went for two and got it, as Outlaw found Hunter Thornton (JR/Upper Chichester, PA) in the back of the end zone for the 2-point conversion pass.

It was then that things got a bit crazy.  Gino DiCamillo (SR/Broomall. PA)'s kick off landed at the five-yard line and when Gator return man Christian Fitzgerald finally retrieved it, he slipped and was downed at the five-yard line.

The first play from scrimmage, Fitzgerald tried to run around right end, and while being stood up, junior defensive end Quincy Williams (JR/Conshohocken, PA) literally took the ball from him and scampered seven yards into the end zone, for what would prove to be the game winning touchdown!  Outlaw then ran it in for the two-point conversion and Williamson would go up by the score of 16-8.  They had to withstand a last second drive by the Gators but in the end, their defense stepped up yet again, to secure the win.

DeJuan Outlaw had perhaps his best game as a Mechanic in his final game, as he rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown, had a two-point conversion, threw for a two-point conversion, caught a pass for 25 yards, returned a punt for 12 yards, and punted 5 times for a 31.4 yard average!

Defensively, Williamson linebacker Gino DiCamillo, one of the all-time greats in Williamson history, capped off his career with eight tackles, including two for loss, and a fumble recovery and return for 26 yards.  In addition to his game-winning touchdown, Quincy Williams had six tackles, including one for loss a forced fumble and a hurry.

Prior to the game, Williamson honored 15 three-year seniors football players and their parents, for all their hard-work and dedication, both on the football field and off it.  Those honored were as follows:
