2017 USCAA Baseball National Championship to Begin on Monday, May 15th

NORFOLK, VA – The 2017 USCAA Baseball National Championship field has been announced. This years’ Baseball Small College World Series will be hosted in Glens Falls, New York by the College of St. Joseph’s Vermont. The tournament will begin on Sunday, May 14th and will continue until Thursday, May 14th. All games will be played at East Field Park.

The top seed in the Baseball National Championship goes to the University of Cincinnati at Clermont of. The Cougars, coming off a runner-up finish in last year’s championships, enter the 2017 USCAA Small College World Series with a 25-15 record. As the defending national championships, the College of St. Joseph’s Vermont enters as the second seed in this year’s tournament.  They are managed by Bob Godlewski and have a 23-21 record 2017 Championships. The three seed in the 2017 Small College World Series is the Wright State Lake Campus Lakers. The Lakers from Celina, Ohio, the are dominant at the plate, ranking 2nd in the USCAA in runs scored with 279 on the year.

The Apprentice School Builders return to the USCAA Baseball National Championship as the fourth seed. This is their 18th consecutive appearance at the USCAA Small College World Series. The fifth seed goes to the Cleary University Cougars, who won the national title in 2013. In their second consecutive appearance at the national championships, the Lions from Penn State Dubois enter as the sixth seed. The Lions won the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) season with and finished the year the 21-12.

Penn State Mont Alto, who won the PSUAC championship, earned the seventh seed in this year’s championships. Mont Alto brings a five-game winning streak into the tournament. Securing the eighth seed this year is Bluefield State College. The Big Blues played a strong NCAA Division II schedule and are led by senior Justin Bowler who has a .341 batting average.

Entering the tournament as the ninth are the Central Penn College Knights. Central Penn finished the year strong at 14-14 and rank 3rd in the nation in stolen bases with 81. The final seed in the 2017 Baseball National Championship field is Marygrove College from Detroit, Michigan. The Mustangs are led by Chase Youkin who has .315 batting average, .397 on base percentage, and a team-high 35 hits. This is Marygrove’s first ever USCAA trip to the Small College World Series.
