SYRACUSE, NY - Daemen College captured their first USCAA Women's Cross Country National Championship on Friday, besting host SUNY ESF by a score of 51-89 to capture the crown.
The Wildcats sprinted to the second, fifth and seventh place individual finishes for team points en route to the championship. Daemen was paced by Mackenzie Donahue, who finished second overall. Hannah Rice and Jordan Weir also finished in the top 14, earning them All-American status.
SUNY ESF finished in the top three for the second straight year, and the University of Dallas took home third place as a team in the women's race.
Cleary University's Elaine Lowe captured the women's individual championship, running the 6K course in just over 23 minutes with a time of 23:07.6. She was followed by Donahue and Dine College's Tatiyanah Johnson.
Lowe, a freshman, ran a 6:13 mile pace as she took the individual crown by 23 seconds. The top four finishers in this year's women's race were freshmen or sophomores, as Paul Smith's freshman Chloe Mattilio finished fourth. Kayla Legassie was the first senior finisher, finishing fifth overall.
