On Saturday, April 11, 2010, The Penn State Beaver Women's Basketball culminated their 2010 community service plan by helping Independence Conservancy, the Ohioville Borough, and PennDot-Rochester with the "Gateway to PA" trash sweep cleanup.

On September 26, 2009, the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions Women's Basketball Program assisted Independence Conservancy's Community Tire Collection program at the Brighton Township, Public Works Complex, 1250 Brighton Road, Beaver, PA 15009. Independence Conservancy is part of the PA Land Trust Association and the organization is the first and only land trust based in Beaver County.

At the tire collection the Lady Lions greeted all patrons at their vehicle, who brought tires to dispose of, and then proceeded to haul, stack, de-rim, and shear the unwanted tires. Approximately 225 tires were handled by the Lady Lions. Following the collection, Independence Conservancy properly disposed the tires and recycled the rims.

On the following Saturday, October 3, 2009, the Lady Lions aided the Beaver County environment once again as they teamed up this time with Matt Kramer, Pennsylvania Game Commission Officer and Penn State alum, in cleaning up an illegal tire dumping site near the intersection of Watts Mill Road and Cannelton Road (PA State Game Land 285).

The Lady Lions collected tires and trash in an effort to assist the cleanup of this important watershed habitat. For more information on the Pennsylvania Game Commission and its mission to "Manage wildlife and its habitat for current and future generations," contact http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/

The Lady Lions' continuing community service efforts throughout the season hope to educate and inspire community action while preserving the local environment. The Lady Lions helped to make the campus community aware of the environment with their "Go Green" Game vs. PSU Dubois on February 1st, 2010.

At the game, "Blue and White, Go Green" T-shirts were given away to students and "green facts" were announced throughout the game to help spectators become more aware of how they can help have less impact on their envrionment. More importantly, with the help of the PSU Beaver Maintenance staff, the Lady Lions were able to secure recycling receptacles in the gymnasium lobby, which has helped promote recycling plastic, aluminum and paper throughout the Beaver Athletic Department and gymnasium patrons.
