St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn) senior pitcher/outfielder Alyson Chiaramonte accomplished a rare feat last week, tossing back-to-back perfect games in consecutive starts. Chiaramonte fired a five-inning perfect game in a 14-0 victory over Sarah Lawrence College on April 13th and was perfect again three days later in a 6-0 triumph over John Jay College.
Josh Longsderff, a sophomore pitcher from Penn College, followed up a day later with the first perfect game in Penn College’s history. Longsderff pitched seven perfect innings, striking out eight, en route to victory over USCAA #6 ranked Penn State – Greater Allegheny. The loss marked Greater Allegheny’s first loss in PSUAC play this season.
Chiaramonte, a three-time USCAA All-American fanned 13 and 10 batters, respectively, to record the third and fourth perfect games of her career, the John Jay perfecto the first to go seven innings. Chiaramonte also has a no-hitter under her belt this season, which would have also been a five-inning perfect game, with the lone blemish a batter reaching on an error.
Over four straight appearances in the circle last week, Chiaramonte tossed 17 consecutive perfect innings where only one ball left the infield in 51 straight outs. For the week ending April 15th, Chiaramonte compiled a 3-0 record, 0.74 ERA and struck out 38 and walked just one powering St. Joseph’s to a 6-0 mark and program-tying 15-game winning streak, earning herself USCAA Pitcher of the Week honors for the seventh time in her career. St. Joseph’s Brooklyn is currently ranked #8 in the USCAA Coaches Poll.
Josh Longsderff’s perfect game snapped a Penn State-Greater Allegheny 15-game winning streak. Longsderff started the season late after recovering from injury and in three appearances has a 2-0 record with a 1.00 ERA, 18 strikeouts and a .115 opponent batting average. The Wildcats are 16-9 in the season in the competitive Penn State University Athletic Conference and is currently ranked #8 in the USCAA Coaches Poll.
