Madness in the Mountains II – 2011 USCAA National Basketball Champions

The 2011 USCAA National Basketball Championships concluded Saturday, March 5th in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.  National Champions were crowned in Men’s Division I (Southern Virginia University), Men’s Division II (Andrews University), and Women’s Basketball (Ave Maria University) as well as All-Tournament Teams in all three divisions.

Tournament Recap

Men’s Division I:

Southern Virginia won their first ever USCAA Men's Division I National Championship, as they defeated Ave Maria 83-67.  The Jacobson brothers, Anders and Isaac combined for 38 points to lead the Knights.  With the score tied 25-25, Southern Virginia closed the first half on a 11-3 run to lead 36-28 at the half.

Men’s Division I All-Tournament Team

Men’s Division II:

All-American Ryan Little scored 19 points to lead Andrews University to their first USCAA Men's Division I National Championship, as they defeated UC-Clemont 69-54. Andrews led by as many as 21 in a game that they never trailed.  Matthew Little and Tyler Wooldridge each scored 16 points with Little grabbing ten rebounds and Wooldridge dishing out four assists for Andrews.

Men's Division II All-Tournament Team

Women’s Division:

In their first year in the USCAA, the Ave Marie Lady Gyrenes won the Women's National Championship as they defeated PSU Beaver 80-55.  In the first half both teams traded the lead seven times until Emily Huber hit a jumper to give Maria the lead at 33-30.  For the rest of the game, Ave Maria outscored Beaver 59-20.
