USCAA Announces Women's Volleyball Championship Field and Schedule

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The USCAA has announced the field for the 2012 USCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship to be held at SUNY Canton Nov. 2-4.

USCAA newcomer Daemen College claimed the overall number one seed, and sits atop Pool A in the two-pool tournament. Each pool consists of five teams, with four teams from each pool advancing to the elimination rounds.

Joining Daemen in Pool A is host SUNY Canton, a second year program looking to keep the trophy from having to leave the familiar confines of the brand new Convention, Athletic & Recreation Center (CARC). Carlow University and the University of Cincinnati-Clermont also join Pool A, with each finishing in the top eight of the most recent coaches poll. Rounding out Pool A will either be Penn College or the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference champion, if it does not happen to be Penn College or at-large qualifier, Penn State Fayette. If a Penn State school other than Penn College or Penn State Fayette wins the conference tournament, Penn College’s spot will be given to the conference champion.

Fayette sits in Pool B with perennial contender and overall second seeded Rochester College. Three-time defending champion Florida College joins Rochester and Fayette atop Pool B. Florida College has won six USCAA Volleyball National Championships since 2000. Johnson & Wales (NC) reaches the national championship tournament after a strong campaign, and NHTI joins the fray as the sole Yankee Conference representative.

Pool play will begin on Friday, Nov. 2 at 10:00 a.m., with 10 matches played on day one at both CARC and Dana Hall on the SUNY Canton camps. Day two will see both pool play and elimination games, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The last pool play match-ups will conclude by 4:00 p.m. and teams will be re-seeded. Quarterfinal games are scheduled to be played on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 will begin with semifinal matches at 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. The third-place game is set for 2:00 p.m., immediately preceding the championship match at 4:00 p.m. in CARC. See the tournament schedule for more information.
