UMFK Basketball Teams Teach Cub Scouts at 2012 Fun Day

Fort Kent, Maine – Coaches and Team members from  the U-Maine-Fort-Kent men’s and women’s basketball teams recently taught the game of basketball to area Cub Scouts during the 2012 North Star District Cub Scout Fun Day held on the UMFK Campus Saturday April 28.  Organizers hosted the Maine Cub Scots on campus as they participated in four distinct activities led by UMFK Faculty and Staff.  The activities were “Fantastic Forestry,” “Bang, Flash, Boom! Wacky Chemistry,” “Art Smarts” and “Bengal Basketball Bonanza.”

In the “Bengal Basketball Bonanza,” UMFK Head Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches Eric Werntgen and Bradley Holabird led sessions in which the Cub Scouts learned the fundamentals of basketball while participating in a variety of games inside the UMFK Sports Center gymnasium.  The Coaches, team members and Cub Scouts had an enjoyable day focused on basketball during these four sessions.

UMFK team members donating their time along with Coach Werntgen and Coach Holabird were Taylor Boucher (So., Fort Kent), Jeremy Bishop (Fr., Montreal, Canada), Ericka Christensen (Fr., Warren, Maine), Jennifer Colpitts (So., Scarborough, Maine), Thomas Elias (Jr., Madison, Maine), Glenn Gaitor (Fr., Freeport, Bahamas), Jorge Matesanz (Fr., Sevilla, Spain) and Jahleel Williams (Fr., Fort Fairfield, Maine).
