Gary Zane | USCAA Hall of Fame | Legacy Class '17

Gary Zane is the all-time winningest coach at Unity College. He has 200+ wins as a basketball and soccer coach and was a six-time conference coach of the year. He led his teams to five NSCAA/USCAA National soccer championships. As athletic director from 1985 to 2004, Zane held multiple hats at Unity but always ensured his commitment to student-athletes came first.

From 1998-2000, Zane served as the vice president of the NSCAA. He was also instrumental in authoring the Yankee Small College Conference constitution and eligibility requirements, laying the foundation for a now thriving conference in the northeast. Zane served as the YSCC president from 1998 to 2004. During this time, he was recipient of the NSCAA Athletic Director of the Year in 1999.

With the transition to the USCAA from the NSCAA, Zane maintained a steady hand in guiding the National Office, serving as the National Eligibility Chair from 2001 to 2005. He also wrote USCAA National Eligibility Guidelines. During this time, Zane changed roles from athletic director to Dean of Students at Unity College.

Zane is married and has two children. He and his wife, Nancy, reside in Unity, Maine. He retired in June of 2016.
