A devoted father, coach, and administrator, Tom Hughes has left his mark through his work and passion with the National Small College Athletic Association (NSCAA) in the 1990’s. Hughes led Kansas Wesleyan’s volleyball team to back-to-back national championships in 1996 and 1997, earning him the distinction of being named the volleyball coach of the year in 1997. He was also named the women’s basketball coach of the year in 1996.

Hughes’s list of accomplishments is anything but short.

  • Wentworth Military Academy and College 1987-88 Men's Basketball Team inducted into the Wentworth "Athletic Hall of Fame" - October 2005
  • Inducted into the Wentworth Military Academy and College "Coaches Hall of Fame" - October 2000
  • Coached the Kansas Wesleyan University Volleyball team to the NSCAA National Championship
  • Named NSCAA "National Volleyball Coach of the Year" - 1997
  • Coached Kansas Wesleyan University Women's Basketball to back-back NSCAA National Championships (1996-97)
  • Named NSCAA "National Basketball Coach of the Year" – 1996
  • Winningest Basketball Coach in Wentworth history – Coached the only 3 NJCAA All-Americans in school history

Hughes graduated from the College of Emporia in Kansas and later earned his Master of Science in Physical Education from Pittsburg State University in Kansas. He spent nearly 15 years serving the students at Wentworth Military Academy & College as a coach, athletic director, and in other various roles.
