Joining graduate assistant ranks of the USCAA is Justin DeLeon, who will be working in the role of Basketball National Championships Operations Coordinator. DeLeon, from Powhatan, VIrginia, is beginning his first semester at Virginia Commonwealth University at their Center of Sport Leadership master’s program.

As an undergraduate at Randolph-Macon College, DeLeon majored in Communication with a minor in Journalism and played football for the Yellow Jackets.

At Randolph-Macon, Justin worked at the campus bookstore where he managed the supply chain, creating supply lists for out of stock items and ensured that the in-store customers had a positive experience while shopping.  Upon graduation, he also gained experience as an account executive for T-Force Freight working to support their customers.  During that time, he was also working for B Harrison Security.

On the field, DeLeon was a running back who in his senior season was 2nd in rushing on the team and was named to the ODAC All-Academic Team.  Most impressively, he was named the 2021 Offensive Player of the Year.

“I am excited to welcome Justin to the National Office ranks”, states Bertges.  “Through our ongoing partnership with VCU and continued financial support from Richmond Region Tourism, we are able to continue to engage their Sports Management Program students which has proven valuable over the years, and this year will be no exception”.

“I am beyond excited and thankful to be accepting this role as a National Championships Operations Coordinator”, says DeLeon. “I hope to contribute significantly to this team’s success in this role and pick up essential skills along the way.  ‘For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack’”.
