NEWPORT NEWS, VA – University of Maine-Fort Kent Athletic Director Bill Ashby was named the 2013-14 Garth Pleasant Honorary Athletic Director of the Year on Monday at the 2014 USCAA National Convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Ashby receives the honor for his support of the USCAA and efforts to promote USCAA membership growth and national recognition. In addition to his role as Athletic Director at University of Maine-Fort Kent, Ashby serves as the University’s men’s soccer coach. As a coach, he’s contributed as a member of the Coaches Poll Committee, and currently presides over the USCAA’s Soccer Coaches Committee. Ashby’s vision and ideas within the Soccer Coaches Committee help shape the growth of soccer within the association.
Ashby’s teams have earned berths to the USCAA Soccer National Championships the last four years, including winning the 2010 Men’s Soccer National Championship. Last year, University of Maine-Fort Kent finished as the USCAA’s runner-up in men’s soccer.
