2008 USCAA National Cross Country Championship Information

Event: Southern Virginia University will host the 2008 USCAA Cross Country National
Championship. This event is open to all USCAA member schools that sponsor cross
country teams and/or individual runners.
Location: The meet will be held at Glen Maury Park in Buena Vista, Virginia.
Directions: From the North & South - Follow I-81 to exit 188A toward Buena Vista. Travel
approximately two miles to first light. Take a right turn on to Forge Road. Less than a mile
down the road, take the first left turn toward Glen Maury Park. Follow this road (that
dissects a graveyard) until you reach the entrance to the park on your left (directly across
from the soccer field).
Race Times: Women (6K Distance) - 12 p.m. Men (8K Distance) -- 12:45 p.m.
Awards: USCAA All-America Awards to top-seven individuals. Team trophies will be given for first
and second-place finishes. Championship Medallions will be awarded to members of First
place team.
Course: 99% grass/trail, crosses asphalt road. Spikes recommended particularly if wet. The course
will be flagged and available for inspection beginning Thursday, October 30 at 1 pm.
Course maps will be distributed to coaches at the banquet, or may be picked up from Kyle
Chilton on Thursday, October 30 after 1 pm.
Entries: Entry is free to all USCAA Schools. Rosters can declare up to ten (10) athletes. Any
additional athletes beyond the declared ten will be eligible to also race, but will not be used
in the team scoring. ENTRIES DUE FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24.
Banquet: The USCAA Banquet will be held on Thursday, October 30, at 7 pm. All USCAA schools
are expected to attend. The agenda consists of dinner and a guest speaker. Academic All-
American awards will be awarded at the banquet. The banquet will be held on the Southern
Virginia campus, in the Stoddard Activity Center; the cost is $8.00 per person. Please make
checks payable to Southern Virginia University and present the check at the door.
Coaches Meeting: Immediately following the banquet, the coaches will meet for a few minutes to
review the race schedule, course map and receive any general instructions.
T-shirts: All athletes and coaches will receive a race t-shirt with registration. Please return the
attached size chart so that we may get these shirts printed in quantities and sizes appropriate
for you and your team. All t-shirt request forms are due WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10.
Accommodations: Please see attached sheet for a listing of hotels and restaurants in the area.
Airport: The closest airports are Roanoke Regional (ROA) or Lynchburg Regional (LYH), which
are approximately a one-hour drive from Southern Virginia. The Richmond Airport (RIC) is
approximately two hours, Washington Dulles International IAD or Reagan National (DCA)
are approximately 2.5 hours, and Baltimore Washington International (BWI) is four hours.
Medical: Southern Virginia University will provide a certified athletic trainer on-site for the event.
The University training facilities will be made available for pre & post race medical
treatment as needed. In case of an emergency, athletes will be transported to Stonewall
Jackson Hospital, located at 1 Health Circle, Lexington, VA, approximately 10 miles away.
Scoring System: The University will use a Seiko Stopwatch/Printer - 300LP, Model #5149, for
scoring the race. Additional personnel will be in attendance to record the bib #'s as
the runners finish. Five runners and two pushers shall be the method of scoring.
Dead man scoring will be permitted if agreed upon at the Coaches' meeting. (Dead
man scoring is giving each school the last place score for each missing runner.)
Results: Results will be available approximately 30 minutes after each race. Printed race results will
be distributed to all coaches. Results will also be available on-line at
www.svu.edu/athletics/
Locker Rooms: Upon completion of the race, teams will return to the Southern Virginia campus
where they can shower in the men's and women's locker rooms located in the
Knight Arena. Teams should bring their own towels as they will not be provided.
