Buena Vista, VA.- The 2008 Cross Country Championship banquet
was graced with the presence of LaVell Edward, former BYU football
coach and a member of the National Football Foundation and College
Hall of Fame.
Edwards, the sixth all-time winningest coach in college football
history with 257 victories, shared reasons he enjoys athletics and
what can be learned from competing. He noted that athletics gives a
person the opportunity to conquer one's self, to learn discipline
and to truly believe in your abilities.
Other counsel Edwards offered was that limitations only exist in
peoples' minds. He added that while coaching he had several
quarterbacks earn All-America honors and that often they were not
even the most physically gifted quarterback on the roster. Edwards
said that those quarterbacks maximized the tools, talents and gifts
they had been given.
Edwards noted that by applying the principles learned through
athletics of discipline and maximizing the talents one has can help
athletes find success in all facets of life.
