MCKEESPORT, Pa. - Penn State Greater Allegheny baseball player Ta'Juan Dutrieuille was recently named a recipient of the 2012 RBI for RBI Scholarship, an award presented by Major League Baseball Charities to student-athletes for academic achievement and community involvement. Major League Baseball handed out 12 scholarships through the program this year, one in each of 12 metropolitan areas in the United States.
According the Major League Baseball, the scholarship is awarded to 'student-athletes (who) are reviving baseball in inner cities', and participants who have demonstrated both academic achievement and strong community involvement throughout high school.
Dutrieuille participates in the Pittsburgh RBI League, and is currently attending Penn State Greater Allegheny to study engineering. He has also served as a volunteer on community service projects with the Boys and Girls Club of Western PA.
Each RBI Scholarship provides $5,000 per year, and is renewable for three years as a recpient pursues his or her certificate, associate or bachelor's degree. All recipients will be recognized at the 20th RBI World Series in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.
