Tournament MVP Thomas Butler earned his second win of the tournament with a complete game performance as Briarcliffe College repeated as USCAA National Champions with a 6-2 win over Southern Virginia on a misty, foggy Tuesday night at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

Butler retired 24 batters in a row at one point in the game limiting a powerhouse Southern Virginia lineup to four hits.  Butler had two strikeouts and only allowed one walk.

Joseph Russo, Kevin Licul and Chris Ahearn had two hits apiece for Briarcliffe who became the first team in at least eight years to come out of the losers bracket and win three games on the final day of the tournament.

#2 Briarcliffe - 11, #1 Southern Virginia - 9

Thomas Butler was 3-for-4 while five other Bulldogs had two hits apiece as second-seeded Briarcliffe College forced an if necessary game with an 11-9 win over top-seeded Southern Virginia.

The Bulldogs erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to take an 11-0 lead before Southern Virginia answered with four runs in the sixth and five in the eighth before Kurt Stettner held them at bay in the ninth to close the game.

Andrew Snider was 4-for-5 for SVU, while Tyler Cox and Josh Linn had a pair of hits and drove in two runs.
