 Men's Championship

The Men's Championship game between Saint Briarcliffe College and Concordia College took place at 4 PM on Sunday. In the men's game, the tournament trend continued as the game was finally decided in a penalty shoot out following two overtime periods.  Hyron Brown-Baptiste of Concordia College scored midway through the second half, before Briarcliffe College's Jabneel Springer scored off a corner kick to tie the game at 1-1.  In the penalty shoot out, Concordia College connected on their first four shots in defeating Briarcliffe College for the Men' National Championship.  Goalkeeper Akil Benjamin was named tournament MVP.    

Congratulations to Concordia College, the 2009 USCAA Men's Soccer National Champions.

 

Day 2 - November 7, 2009    

Men's Soccer Tournament

In the 11 AM consolation game between eighth seed Vermont Tech and fourth seed Penn College, Penn College controlled the pace of the game leading to a 4-1 win.

In the 1 PM consolation game between third seed Penn York and second seed NHTI, both teams battled to a 1-1 tie in regulation.

In the 5 PM semi-final game between first seed Briarcliffe College and fifth seed Spalding University, Robert Cox scored the game winning goal in the 80th minute, and Briarcliffe College held on to win in a highly competitive match, 1-0.  Briarcliffe will play in the Championship Final on Sunday.

In the 7 PM semi-final game between sixth seed Concordia College and seventh seed Rochester College, two second half goals by Concordia College's Hyron Brown-Baptiste and Brent Pierre led the way to a 2-0 victory.  Concordia College will play Briarcliffe College for the National Championship on Sunday.   

Day 1 - November 6, 2009

The opening round games of the USCAA National Men's and Women's Soccer Tournaments were characterized by overtimes and upsets.  Six of the eight games went to overtime. Four games went to double overtime. Three of the four double overtime games had to be settled on penalty kicks.

In the Men's Tournament, defending champion and top seeded Briarcliff College (NY) was the only higher seeded team to finish the day victorious.  Seventh seeded Rochester College (Michigan) edged out second seed NHTI.  Sixth seed Concordia College (Alabama) defeated Penn State York, and  fifth seed Spalding University (Kentucky) outlasted fourth seed Penn College (PA).

All games were played at the Tree Farm Soccer Complex in Essex, VT.  Semi-Final games will be played at South Burlington High School on Saturday, November 7.  Women's semi-final games are at 1 PM and 3 PM.  Men's semi final games are at 5 PM and 7 PM.

A consolation round will be played at the Tree Farm in Essex at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM on Saturday.  Championship games are scheduled for 2 PM (women) and 4 PM (men) on Sunday, November 8 at S. Burlington High School.

 Men's Soccer Tournament 

Defending champion and #1 seed Briarcliff College defeated host Vermont Tech 5-1 to kick off the men's championship tournament.  Briarcliff scored five first half goals.  Paulo Nicholas Seroline had a three goal hat trick.  Aegeus Ruddck and Juan Zuluaga added one goal each.  Vermont Tech's goal was scored by Pat Hudson.

Spalding University edged Penn College (PA) on penalty kicks, 3-2,  after battling through a tough double overtime.  Drew Kaphammer and David Gross scored for Spalding in regulation.  Coleby Frye scored both regulation goals for Penn College

Eight seeded Rochester College (Michigan) upset second seeded New Hampshire Technical Institute, 2-1 on PK's after a double overtime contest.  NHTI's goalkeeper,  All-American Dakota Letendre, was injured in the second half and could not finish the game. Brad Degaetano scored for NHTI.

Sixth Seed Concordia College needed a single goal from Brent Pierre to upend third seed Penn State York, 1-0.
