NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The USCAA has released the seeding and pairings for the 2012 USCAA Men’s and Women’s Soccer National Championships, to be hosted by Warren Wilson College on Nov. 1-3, 2012 in Asheville, NC.
The men’s bracket and women’s brackets see a familiar match-up at the top of the bracket, as host Warren Wilson College takes on the University of Maine-Fort Kent. The University of Maine-Fort Kent earned the top seed in both the men’s and women’s tournaments, with the men’s team finishing the regular season at 15-1. The Maine-Fort Kent women’s squad puts an unblemished record on the line after finishing the regular season 14-0, and looks to repeat as USCAA National Champions after taking home the title in 2011.
Yankee Conference men’s champion NHTI will battle a one-loss Briarcliffe College team in the four versus five match-up. West Virginia University Institute of Technology earned the two-seed and will take on the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference champion, to be crowned Oct. 27. Concordia College Alabama is the three-seed and will clash with six-seed SUNY ESF.
In the women’s bracket, Carlow rode a four game winning streak to the number two seed, claiming a match-up with Yankee Conference champion, seven-seed the University of Maine-Machias. Three-seed Penn College battles six-seed Daemen College, who climbed 10 spots in the last coaches’ poll after a three game winning streak to earn an at-large berth in the tournament. Paul Smith’s College, the tournament’s four-seed, takes on its New York brethren in the form of five-seed Albany College of Pharmacy.
Tournament play begins on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 11:00 a.m., as the women’s first round games kick-off. Men’s action begins immediately after at 1:00 p.m. Women’s semifinals and consolation matches are set for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, with the men’s semifinals and consolations scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The 2012 USCAA Women’s Soccer champion will be crowned after the championship game beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, while the Men’s championship game begins at 1:00 p.m. All games will be at the John B. Lewis Soccer Complex in Asheville, NC.
