SUNY ESF Named Host of 2013, 2014 USCAA Cross Country Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The USCAA has announced that the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry has been named the host of the 2013 and 2014 Men’s and Women’s Cross Country National Championships.

“We are excited to bring the USCAA Cross Country Championships to the Syracuse area,” says USCAA Associate Director Matt Simms. “SUNY ESF submitted a wonderful proposal and we look forward to the continued opportunities they can provide for one of our fastest growing championships.”

The meets will be the first ever USCAA Championship events hosted by SUNY ESF, also keeping the Cross Country National Championships in New York for four consecutive years. Paul Smith’s College has hosted the past two USCAA Cross Country National Championships in Lake Placid, NY.

“SUNY ESF is a great, environmentally focused outdoors college, and is a perfect fit for cross country championships,” says ESF Athletic Director Dan Ramin. “Our teams, fans and community are extremely excited about the event and we plan to bring a tremendous amount of positive energy and emotion to the race and other events.”

The USCAA Cross Country National Championships are scheduled for Nov. 7-8, 2013, and Nov. 6-7, 2014 at the Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse, NY. Drumlins is the former home of the Syracuse University cross country team, and will also serve as the banquet site for 2013.

The Cross Country Championships have grown each of the past three years, and Ramin and head cross country coach John View expect the trend to continue.

“With the city (of Syracuse) being so accessible, we trust that more USCAA schools will be able to travel to the USCAA Cross Country event  and thus this will result in an even larger participation than past years,” adds View, who has coached his men’s team to back-to-back USCAA Championships.
