USCAA Announces Expansion of Fields for Soccer Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The USCAA National Office has announced expansion plans for the 2013 USCAA Men’s and Women’s Soccer National Championships. In conjunction with host WVU Tech and Charleston, WV, the USCAA Soccer Championship fields will now include 10 teams in each tournament.

“This was a necessary step for the association and our institutions with soccer programs,” says USCAA Associate Director Matt Simms. “We are a member driven organization, and as we have grown, so too has the support for the expansion of our tournament fields. Soccer has been no different, and we look forward to implementing this proposal in 2013 with the help of WVU Tech and the city of Charleston.”

Previous USCAA Soccer Championship tournaments have hosted eight team fields and a single elimination format, with each team guaranteed at least two games. The addition of two teams to both the men’s and women’s tournaments will extend the tournament by one day, with the single elimination format and guaranteed games remaining the same. The expansion also creates a first-round bye for six teams in each bracket.

“The opportunity to expand our tournaments and increase the opportunities for student-athletes are always among our priorities,” adds USCAA Director of Championships Ryan Ehrie. “We heard tremendous feedback from our members regarding expansion for soccer, and WVU Tech and Charleston have been very receptive and gracious in working with us to make sure this idea could work in 2013.”

The 2013 edition of the USCAA Soccer Championships will be held from Wednesday, Oct. 30 through Saturday, November 2 at Friends of Coal Trace Fork Soccer Complex and Coonskin Park’s Schoenbaum Soccer Stadium in Charleston, WV.
