Daemen College Leads USCAA Director's Cup Race After Fall

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Another dominant fall campaign has Daemen College at the top of the USCAA’s 2013-14 Director Cup standings. The Wildcats, last year’s USCAA Director’s Cup champions, won three fall championships, including women’s cross country, men’s golf and women’s volleyball. For the fall, Daemen College finishes with 545 points.

In a repeat of the 2012 season, Daemen College started the year with a victory at the USCAA Golf National Championships. With five golfers in the top ten overall, the Wildcats defeated the second-place finisher Lindenwood University-Belleville by ten strokes.

Later in the fall, Daemen College took home a second consecutive women’s volleyball National Championship, defeating long-time USCAA power Florida College in a rematch of the 2012 finals. On that same weekend Daemen College’s women’s soccer team took home runner-up honors, falling to rival University of Maine-Fort Kent in another rematch from last year. The Wildcats completed their fall season with their first women’s cross country National Championship and a second-place finish in men’s cross country in Syracuse, NY.

SUNY-ESF enters the winter season in second place in the USCAA Director’s Cup chase with 337.5 points. The Mighty Oaks won their third straight men’s cross country National Championship, finished second in women’s cross country, had a solid showing at the men’s golf National Championship, and earned a berth in the women’s soccer National Championship.

In third place at the conclusion of the fall season is West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech). On the strength of their victory in the men’s soccer National Championship, the Golden Bears have 310.5 points. Along with men’s soccer, WVU Tech earned points for finishing tied for seventh in the women’s soccer National Championship, 9th in men’s cross country, and 13th in men’s golf.
