2015 USCAA Baseball and Softball National Championship fields have been announced

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The 2015 USCAA Baseball and Softball National Championship fields have been announced. This years’ Baseball National Championship will be hosted in Hampton, Virginia by The Apprentice School. The tournament will begin on Tuesday, May 12 and will continue until Saturday, May 16. All games will be played at War Memorial Stadium.

The 2015 USCAA Softball National Championship will be held in Akron, Ohio and hosted by Penn State Beaver and the Akron Racers. All 21 games for this years’ championship will be played at Firestone Stadium from May 10th to May 14th.

The top seed in the Baseball National Championship goes to Illinois Tech. The Scarlet Hawks makes their first appearance in the tournament having won 11 of 14 road games this year. After an early exit in last year’s championship, Penn State Greater Allegheny enters as the second seed. The Lions will be led by Joshua Arroyo who leads the association in RBIs (58). Tennessee Temple University comes into the tournament with a record of 19-9, good enough to capture the third seed. The Crusaders have won five of their last seven games with both losses coming by only one run.

Rochester College returns to the USCAA Baseball National Championship as the fourth seed. Offensively, the Warriors are paced by senior Scott Kunert, who is batting .362 and has a slugging percentage of .431. The fifth seed is host institution The Apprentice School. The Builders enter having won three straight games, and will have home field advantage at War Memorial Stadium. College of St. Joseph’s-Vermont makes their first trip to the Baseball National Championships. As the sixth seed, they feature USCAA home run leader Jayson Osborne. Osborne, has nine home runs and 15 doubles on the season.

University of Cincinnati-Clermont, the seventh seed, will be looking to bring home their second championship in three years after falling in last year’s championship game. As a team they hit 22 homeruns, best in the association. Penn State Beaver finished its regular season as the runner-up in the Penn State University Athletic Conference. Entering the tournament as the eighth seed, the Lions have hit almost 80 doubles this season. The ninth seeded St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn Bears are led by Mitch Brigando, with seven wins on the season. The final seed in the 2015 Baseball National Championship field is Penn State Schuylkill who have won four of their last six.   

The top seed in the 2015 USCAA Softball National Championship is St. Mary of the Woods College. The Pomeroy’s enter the tournament with a 27-11 record and will be looking to avenge a second place finish from last season to win their eighth USCAA Softball National Championship. Second-seeded Carlow University has Allison Hyradil, who has a batting average of .448 on the season. With the third seed, Penn State Brandywine heads to Akron with a record of 21-10. Robyn Gannon leads the Lady Lions in batting average (.419) and RBIs (32). Brandywine has three key wins over fifth-seeded Penn State Hazelton this season.

Perennial contender Briarcliffe College will be seeded fourth in this years’ tournament after having won all of their home games. Fifth seeded Penn State Hazleton has an overall record of 28-13. The Lady Lions are led by third baseman, Andrea Quillman, who leads the USCAA in RBIs and home runs. NHTI is the sixth seed and enters having won 14 straight games. Marsha Lange, who is ranked first in batting average, second in home runs, fourth in runs batted in, and fourth in stolen bases, will be a player to watch.

The St. Joseph’s College Brooklyn Bears will be seeded seventh in this year’s National Championship. The Bears have won five of their last six games and come into the tournament with confidence having not allowed a run in their two previous games. The Mountaineers of Berea College will be the eighth team in the field. Allie Newton, who has 21 stolen bases this season, will be a handful for opposing pitchers. Penn State Schuylkill heads to Akron as the ninth seed. Their hopes may rest on bats of Stephanie Killian and Erin Luckenbill. Killian is batting .545 while Luckenbill has hit seven home runs. University of Cincinnati-Clermont is the final seed in this years’ field. They’re comfortable on the road where they have a 7-1 record this season.
