Florida College to Host 2015-16 Cross Country National Championships

Florida College to Host 2015-16 Cross Country National Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The USCAA has announced that Florida College has been selected to host the 2015 and 2016 USCAA Cross Country National Championships. The Championships will take place at Holloway Park in Lakeland, Florida, located between Tampa Bay and Orlando.

Holloway Park encompasses 250 acres of trails and natural preserve. Centrally located in the center of the state, the park has good access, and can easily handle parking for 1200-1500 cars, making it well suited for large events. The trails themselves offer plenty of twists, turns, and hills in a natural setting that should provide for a challenging, yet exciting experience for USCAA runners.

“Florida College is thrilled and honored to be selected to host the 2015-2016 USCAA Cross Country National Championships” says Athletic Director Pat Todd. “Holloway Park provides a championship experience for our athletes and spectators. The Hyatt Place Lakeland Center will serve as our Championship Host Hotel. We are excited to share the beauty of the Bay area with our USCAA partners and look forward to a fantastic event!”

Host hotel, the Hyatt Place Lakeland Center, features 127 guest rooms, complimentary Wi-Fi, parking, and breakfast, a 24 hour fitness center, outdoor pool, and workspace for students. All rooms come equipped with 42” televisions, refrigerators, coffee makers, and sectional sleeper sofas. The championship banquet will be held at The Lakeland Center.

“The growth of our Cross Country National Championships has been tremendous in recent years. We owe a lot of that success to our championship hosts. I know that Tournament Directors Pat Todd and Kenny Welliver will raise the bar once again, and create a destination event for our Cross Country student-athletes and coaches. We’re thrilled to be able to bring this tournament to the state of Florida, and excited to be work with the Florida College staff,” states USCAA Chief Operating Officer Matthew Simms.

The 2015 Cross Country National Championships is tentatively scheduled for November 6th. The 2014 tournament will return to Syracuse, NY and be hosted by SUNY ESF.
