The 2015 USCAA Golf National Championship Preview

The 2015 USCAA Golf National Championship tees off Monday, October 12th at 9:00 A.M. from the Blue Course at Penn State University. Represented in the tournament will be 23 institutions and nearly 120 golfers. Included below is information about each team making the trip to State College, PA.  For more information about the tournament, including round results, statistics, and awards please follow theuscaa.com.

 

The Apprentice School

  • Phillip Nelson is averaging 78 strokes per round to place 11th among the USCAA golfers.
  • The Apprentice School finished 9th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.
  • Phillip Nelson, Tim Moore, Forrest Barefoot, Chris Davis, and Perry Barber will be returning to the USCAA Golf National Championship.

Berea College

  • Kevin Kim represents Berea College as the 2nd ranked USCAA golfer with an average of 72.8 strokes per round. Kim has a round low of 70 strokes.
  • Berea College tied for 11th place in their first USCAA Golf National Championship last year.
  • Kevin Kim, Austin Worley, Daniel Piercefield, Derrick Lisanby, and Trevor Humes will all be returning for their second straight year at the 2015 Golf National Championship.

Cleary University

  • Devin Young is the 4th ranked USCAA golfer with a stroke average of 73.89. He has the lowest round score in the USCAA with 68.
  • Two Cleary University golfers, Devin Young, and Mitch Cleary have stroke averages of less than 80 on the year.
  • The Cougars finished 4th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.

Great Bay Community College

  • Kyle Gagne finished 2nd at the Yankee Small College Conference match at Southern Maine CC on October 3rd.
  • Gagne is the 18th ranked USCAA golfer with a stroke average of 79.

The King’s College

  • Second appearance in the USCAA Golf National Championship
  • Team is led by returning players Gabe Medina and Victoria Li.
  • Victoria Li is the defending Women’s Golf Invitational Medalist.

University of Maine-Augusta

  • Lee MacDowell holds the 20th spot amongst USCAA golfers with a low round score of 76 on the season.
  • Team finished 17th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.

Mid-Atlantic Christian University

  • Finished 25th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.
  • Matt Cooper will be the returning from last years’ tournament team.

 NHTI

  • Finished 10th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.
  • A perennial USCAA golf contender, NHTI will be entering this year’s competition with several freshman as they look to build the strength of their program.

Paul Smith’s College

  • Matt Leichty finished in a tie for 7th place at the Johnson State College Invitational where he shot an 81.
  • The Bobcat’s men’s team won the NHTI Invitational this year. They finished 7 strokes ahead of the second place finisher, Southern Maine Community College.

Penn College

  • Finished 8th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.
  • Tyler Marks will be the only player returning from the 2014 Golf National Championship team.

Penn State Dubois

  • Tyler Woodard and Kristy Hanes will be returning from the 2014 Golf National Championship team.
  • Finished 15th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.

Penn State Lehigh Valley

  • Finished 13th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.
  • Shane Rhodes, Nathan Bloomfield, Tyler Schoener, and Ethan Culver will be returning from the 2014 PSUAC Conference Champion.

Penn State Mont Alto

  • Austin Green shot a 79 at the Penn State DuBois Golf Tournament. He finished in a three-way tie for second place.
  • Penn State Mont Alto will have two returners from last year’s team in Chris Caron and Kyle Williams.

Penn State New Kensington

  • Finished 20th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.
  • Grant Rukat and Liam Fitzgerald will be returning from the 2014 Golf National Championship team.

Penn State Schuylkill

  • Quinn McPhillips and Nate Yost will be representing Penn State Schuylkill in the 2015 Golf National Championship.

Penn State University Hazleton

  • Ty Morzilla is the 35th ranked USCAA golfer with a stroke average of 81.33
  • Penn State Hazleton finished 2nd in the Penn State University Athletic Conference Invitational.
  • Morzilla finished first amongst PSUAC golfers in last years’ USCAA Golf National Championship.

Penn State Wilkes Barre

  • Finished 19th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.
  • Jeff Carter and Michael Carey will be returning from last years’ tournament team.

Rochester College

  • Rochester has won two USCAA Golf National Championships in the past 6 years.
  • Finished 2nd in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.
  • Andrew Birchmeier and Jon Wandel will be returning to State College, Pennsylvania for the second straight year.

Southern Maine CC

  • Grayson Waterman finished in the top ten at the Yankee Conference Qualifier.
  • Watermen as a round low of 84 on the season.

SUNY Canton

  • Nolan Reid is ranked 7th among the USCAA golfers with a stroke average of 77.5. He also received player of the week honors for the week of Sept. 8th.
  • The Roos’ finished 5th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.

SUNY Delhi

  • Finished 3rd in the 2014 Golf National Championship.
  • SUNY Delhi has four golfers in the top 10 of USCAA golfers.
  • Seven SUNY-Delhi golfers, Eric Walling, Corey Haight, Cody Homer, Kevin Johnson, Ray Schott, Joseph Burgin, and Adam Brickle have stroke averages of less than 80 on the year.
  • Eric Walling, Cody Homer, Raymond Schott and Joseph Burgin will be returning from the 2014 Golf National Championship team.

SUNY Delhi – Women

  • Lia Rinaldi finished 5th at the Fighting Tigers Jug Classic.
  • Lauren Stevens finished 11th at the Fighting Tigers Jug Classic

SUNY ESF

  • Tied for 11th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.
  • Alex Brown and Brian Walsh will be returning from the 2014 Golf National Championship team.

WVU Tech

  • Three WVU Tech golfers, Matt Ryan, Steven Han, and Braden Keown have stroke averages of less than 80 on the year.
  • Finished 6th in the 2014 USCAA Golf National Championship.
  • Steven Han will be the only returning player from their 2014 team.
