Devin Young and Cleary University Leading after Day 1

STATE COLLEGE, PA – The 2015 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Golf National Championship features 18 teams and 111 golfers which sets a new record for participants. After the opening round the Cleary University Cougars sit atop the team leader board after recording a six-over-par 294. SUNY Delhi is right behind the Cougars coming in 11 shots behind with a 305.  WVU Tech (316) sits in third place with Rochester College (321) and SUNY Canton (323) rounding out the top five.

 

Devin Young of Cleary University is the individual leader half way through this years’ tournament. Young carded a 68 today which puts him four under par. Young only had one bogey on the day but made up that stroke with his five birdies. Matt Ryan from WVU Tech and Trevor Spagnoletti of Cleary University are tied for second (73).  Corey Haight and Kevin Johnson, both of SUNY Delhi, round out the top five individual’s scores (75).

 

Cleary’s 294 ties the second lowest team round in the USCAA National Championships joining Lindenwood University-Belleville who shot 294 in the second round of the 2011 tournament.  Young tied the tournament record for lowest round with his 68 as he joined Tommy Stirling from Southern Maine CC who shot his 68 in the second round of 2011 event.

 

The final round of the championship will tee off at 9 A.M. with a shotgun start on the Penn State Blue Course.
