USCAA Renews Golf National Championship Bid with PSUAC, Penn State Golf Courses for 2016 & 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 2nd, 2015

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) has announced that the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) and Penn State Golf Courses will host the 2016-17 USCAA Golf National Championships. As part of the agreement, the USCAA will have the option to extend that bid through 2020 at the discretion of its Board of Directors. The championship will be held at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pennsylvania on October 9-11, 2016 and October 8-10, 2017.

The Penn State Golf Courses first played host to the USCAA Golf National Championships in 2010, with Penn State Wilkes Barre serving as the host institution. Since 2014, the PSUAC has been the official host of the championships. Jack Monick, who previously served as Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s Athletic Director, has continued to serve as the tournament director along with John Fritz, the PSUAC Commissioner. Steve Eskey, the Event Coordinator with Penn State Golf Courses, leads operations on-site during the tournament.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to return to State College for the USCAA Golf National Championships. Our golf teams have consistently voiced their enthusiasm over the experience they receive at the Penn State Blue Course and the job our partners do in providing a one of a kind experience to our student-athletes. We look forward to continuing to work with John, Jack, and Steve to produce an outstanding event,” says Michael Goodman, the USCAA’s Associate Director and Chief Operating Officer.

“We are proud and honored to host the USCAA National Golf Tournament for 2016 and 2017 at Penn State Golf Courses,” states PSUAC Commissioner John Fritz. The USCAA staff has been great to work with and we are fortunate that the Penn State golf staff under the direction of Joe Hughes, Steve Eskey, and Jack Monick have made this event feel like a “family affair.” The tournament has grown each year thanks to the cooperative work of so many. We look forward to seeing everyone back in Happy Valley to continue this great event.”

The USCAA Golf National Championships hosted a record 24 teams and 115 golfers in 2015 on the Blue Course, the longer and more difficult of the two Penn State Golf Courses. The Penn State Golf Courses have hosted NCAA Division I Golf Regionals, Big Ten Championships and tournaments, as well as high school state championship events.
