East West University Admitted into the USCAA for 2018-19

NORFOLK, VA - The USCAA officially welcomes East West University to the association after confirmation by the Board of Directors last week. For the 2018-19 academic year, the school will be under a provisional status.  

Located in Chicago, Illinois, East West University is a private, non-profit institution founded in 1980. Offering two and four-year degrees, the school’s vision is to educate students to participate in a global society while opening doors of academic and intellectual opportunity to student of diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and religions.

East West University currently offers men’s basketball with plans to add women’s basketball by 2019. Athletic Director and men’s basketball coach Tommie Posley is a 20-year veteran of the coaching ranks in the Chicago area. Posley restarted the athletic program at East West upon arrival four years ago.

“We are very pleased, honored, and humbled to be accepted to the USCAA,” stated Posley. “Being part of something as big as the USCAA will help our school recruit student-athletes and allow our students to be recognized nationally. Academically and athletically, we are very excited and thrilled about membership. It is our hope that as the USCAA continues to grow, East West University grows alongside it. We appreciate this opportunity.”

East West University has a student population around 600 and offers programs in business administration, biology, English and communications, computer science, electronics engineering, and mathematics, among others. As part of its mission, East West offers job and career related education geared toward the modern service economy.

“The USCAA is delighted to begin working with Tommie Posley and East West University,” remarked USCAA Associate Director Michael Goodman. “They were looking for a home that offers the opportunity to compete against like institutions for National Championships and student athlete recognition. That is what our organization provides to small colleges from across the country. We look forward to serving the East West staff and student-athletes and partnering in their growth.”

The admission of East West University finalizes a new member class of nine for the 2018-19 academic year.

About the USCAA

The primary goal of the USCAA is to provide members with an association that is devoted to the growth, vision, and values of their institutions. The USCAA’s focus is to enhance member institutions through athletics. The association intends to achieve this goal by providing opportunities for small colleges to compete on an equal level of competition with schools of like size and athletic programs. The USCAA conducts 12 national championships, names All-Americans, recognizes scholar athletes, and promote USCAA member schools in various means. The USCAA believes that the integrity and credibility of the association and its members is paramount in accomplishing its goal.
