Longtime Penn State Mont Alto athletic director Robert "Marty" Ogle passed away Friday, March 29th at the age of 66 after a battle with cancer. Ogle served as the athletic director at Mont Alto for 28 years until his retirement in 2016.

A resident of Waynesboro, Pa., Ogle starred as a football and basketball player at Waynesboro Area Senior High School before continuing his academic and athletic pursuits at Shepherd University in West Virginia. There, Ogle became an All-American fullback before completing both his Bachelor's (1974) and Master's degrees (1976).

During his time at Mont Alto, Ogle oversaw tremendous growth within the athletic department, including increasing sport offerings from four to 12 intercollegiate sports. On campus, Ogle was also instrumental in the construction of the Multipurpose Building for athletics and new baseball and softball fields that became the envy of the PSUAC. Ogle also served as a senior leader within the conference, holding the role of President of the Council of Athletic Directors for 15 years.

Perhaps one of his greatest accomplishments, Ogle oversaw Mont Alto and the CCAC, the predecessor to the PSUAC, through its transition from two- to four-year eligibility, as well as the PSUAC's membership in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. This membership allowed PSUAC campuses to compete for national championships for the first time, an affiliation that continues to this day. Ogle served on the USCAA Board of Directors from 2013 to 2016 prior to his retirement.

Ogle was not just an administrator, but also a coach. He served as the Lions' head men's basketball coach from 1998-2008, compiling a record of 178-62, including winning a conference title. He was also named the Coach of the Year in three seasons (2000, 2001, 2003).

Shortly after announcing his retirement, Ogle was presented with the Robert J. Scannell Roll of Honor award at the PSUAC's 50th Anniversary Awards Banquet. The award, given to an administrator, faculty, staff member or coach, recognized Ogle's long commitment to student-athlete success and his leadership in the PSUAC.

"Marty will be remembered for his significant contributions to the Mont Alto community and the PSUAC," said current PSUAC Commissioner Ryan Ehrie. "But more importantly he will be remembered as a great friend and helpful soul. He was always welcoming and provided a lot of guidance to me as a young athletics administrator. He will be missed."
