2019 Women's Division I Soccer National Champions

Virginia Beach, VA- The Bengals of the University of Maine Fort Kent claimed the National Champion title this beautiful afternoon at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex, after defeating Florida National University 2-1. The Bengals finished the tournament with a record of 2-0-1.

The University of Maine Fort Kent entered the tournament as the second seed after posting an 8-4 record this season.  They opened pool play with a tough battle against Mississippi University for Women that ended in a 1-1 tie in double overtime.  Tolu Oyeniyi scored the lone goal.  The Bengals and Mississippi University played again the following day and this game also ended in double overtime.  This time the Bengals walked away from this game with the win under their belt.  Tony Perira scored two goals in regulation.  Angely Carreno was the savor for the Bengals as she scored in the 103rd minute during double overtime. 

The Conquistadors who entered the tournament as the fifth seed, paved their way to the championship game by defeating Bryant & Stratton Syracuse and St. Mary of the Woods College.  They gave the University of Maine Fort Kent a tough battle in the championship game.  The Conquistadors kept the Bengals off the scoreboard with their strong defense until the 31st minute.  Yuliana Sanchez found the back of the net.  Florida National came out of the second half looking to tie the game and they did exactly that.  The Conquistadors earned a corner kick and they capitalized on this opportunity.  Juliana Oliveira placed the corner kick perfectly for Mickaela Crespo to put the ball in the back of the net.  It wasn’t till the 85th minute when the Bengals would secure the game with a goal by Tolu Josephine off an assist by Angely Carreno.
