East West University Becomes a Full USCAA Member in 2019-2020

NORFOLK, VA - The USCAA officially promoted East West University to a full member of the association after having been confirmed by the Board of Directors in July.

Located in Chicago, Illinois, East West University was founded in 1980 and is the only majority-minority school in the state of Illinois. The school currently has approximately 1200 student-enrolled and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a regional accreditation recognized by the US Department of Education.

Athletic Director and men’s basketball coach, Tommie Posley restarted the athletic program at East West five years ago with men’s basketball with plans to start the women’s volleyball and women’s basketball team in the coming years. “We are very pleased, honored, and humbled to be accepted as full members of the USCAA” stated Coach Posley. “Being part of something as big as the USCAA will help our student recruitment student-athletes and allow our students to be recognized nationally. Academically and athletically. We are very excited and thrilled about membership. It is our hope that the USCAA continues to grow and East West University grows alongside it.”

The institution has been cited with having the lowest tuitions among private schools in the Chicago area. They have a Veterans Assistance Program on campus to help serve prospective and current student who have served in the armed forces. The Phantoms of East West can graduate with any of the seven bachelor degrees or five associate degrees currently offered including; Behavioral & Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, and English Communication.

Executive Director Matthew Simms of the USCAA said, “The addition of schools like East West University furthers the reach of the USCAA and offers current and prospective members in the Great Lakes region another institution for scheduling. We want to continue to grow and expand our membership reach and East West will help us do just that.”

East West University was a provisional member of the USCAA during the 2018-19 academic year.

The primary goal of the USCAA is to provide members with an association that is devoted to the growth, vision, and values of their institutions. The USCAA’s focus is to enhance member institutions through athletics. The association intends to achieve this goal by providing opportunities for small colleges to compete on an equal level of competition with schools of like size and athletic programs. The USCAA conducts 15 national championships, names All-Americans, recognizes scholar athletes, and promote USCAA member schools in various means. The USCAA believes that the integrity and credibility of the association and its members is paramount in accomplishing its goal.
