Maine-Fort Kent Wins 2022 USCAA Women's Track and Field Invitational Title
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of Maine-Fort Kent rode the strength of Casey Veilleux in the sprints, Marjorie Johnson in the middle distance to distance events and Abbi Thompson in the throwing events to take the 2022 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Track and Field Invitational crown on Saturday at the University of Albany.
UMFK scored 206 points to take the title in the 11-team event. Mississippi University for Women tallied 181 points for second, while host Albany College of Pharmacy was third with 100 points.
Veilleux took fourth in the 100 meters (13.58), fifth in the 200 (28.27) and fourth in the 400 meters (1:10.38) to get the Bengals going. Johnson recorded a pair of seconds in the 800 (2:52.74), 5,000 (24:10.5) and a third in the 10,000 (43:55.0).
Thompson took first in the discus (28.49m) and the shot put (9.87m), second in the hammer throw (28.36m) and fifth in the high jump (1.15m) to lead UMFK in the field events.
Loren Winters was the standout for Mississippi University for Women with a second place in the 100 meters (12.80), winning the 200 meters (26.44) and anchoring the winning 4x100 relay (50.86) and 4x400 relay squads (4:33.4).
