Newport News, VA - The Peninsula Pilots and The Apprentice School announced on Wednesday that BayPort Credit Union (formerly Newport News Shipbuilding Employees' Credit Union) has signed on to be the presenting sponsor of the 2008 USCAA Baseball National Championships.
The USCAA, a national collegiate athletic organization for America's small colleges, will host its 2008 Baseball National Championship tournament May 12-15 in Hampton, Virginia at historic War Memorial Stadium. The tournament will feature eight of the top USCAA small college teams from around the nation. Last year's participants included teams from Maryland, South Dakota, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The host, Apprentice School, enter the tournament as defending national champions.

The news of Bayport's sponsorship comes at a time of exceptional growth and excitement at War Memorial. Last week, ground was broken on a brand new Armitron video scoreboard, which will enhance the fan and player experience at the stadium. Features will include player photos, sponsor commercials and advertisements, video replay, and a host of other features. Production schedules have the scoreboard set for completion prior to the USCAA Championships.
USCAA Commissioner, Bill Casto states, "The USCAA is very fortunate to have support from a company with caring individuals such as those at Bayport Credit Union. With their backing and the support of the great city of Hampton and the Peninsula Pilots, this tournament is sure to be first class."
Tickets and passes for the Championships go on sale soon. The tournament will kick off on Monday, May 12th with a Home Run Derby and banquet/awards celebration for the teams, where All-American and National All-Academic teams will be announced. Tournament play will begin the following morning.
