USCAA Athletic Directors,
The association is proud to announce the 2008 Men's and Women's USCAA Soccer Championships. Following a Board of Director vote, it was approved for Rochester College to host the Men's tournament at the Ultimate Indoor Arena indoor facility in Pontiac, Michigan on October 29-31. Vermont Tech will play host to the women's tournament on October 30-November 1. Tournament information packets will be distributed to the membership and posted at www.theuscaa.com soon.
Despite great news on the continuation of our soccer tournaments, we must also address the situation that we face with soccer in the USCAA. Over the past three years, the association has seen a sharp decline in soccer participation amongst USCAA member institutions. To address this problem the association will be appointing an ad hoc committee, comprised of soccer enthusiasts throughout the association, who will address issues with soccer in the USCAA, promote the sport of soccer amongst members, and investigate attractive venues for future USCAA Championships and make recommendations to the Board of Directors. We will have a report on this committee's progress by February of 2009.
The USCAA remains dedicated to providing the most opportunities possible for its member institutions, their student athletes, coaches, and fans. However, we are also committed to placing excellence in everything that we do. We want to make our soccer championship as attractive a tournament as each of our other National Championships. To accomplish our goals, we will need your help and commitment. If you feel strongly about promoting the sport of soccer in the USCAA, and you can dedicate time to this committee, feel free to send us a request to join. Once formed, the committee will welcome you and your coaches' feedback on how to improve our soccer championships.
We thank you for your continued involvement with the USCAA and look forward to steady growth and improvement amongst all of our championship tournaments in the upcoming years.
Thank you,
Bill Casto
Commissioner, USCAA
