Mustang On Mission

Mustang on Mission is more than a saying within the athletics department at Mid-Atlantic Christian University.  It is a desire to fulfill the Lord's calling to serve for each and every player, coach, and staff member.  This calling extends to ministry found in the churches and local schools of Elizabeth City, to ministry throughout the state of North Carolina and even to opportunities across the country.  Recently this calling extended even further for Head Women's Basketball Coach Charles Troxell and his oldest son Stephen as they headed to the beautiful country of Haiti.

Leaving just days after Hurricane Matthew brought destruction to the southern parts of Haiti, Coach T and Stephen left with a group of 22 from Virginia and North Carolina under the direction of Supply and Multiply, a ministry dedicated to creating jobs, ministering to the least of these, and promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  The intent of the trip was to offer aid where needed and minister in various settings in the town of Montrouis.  Ministry opportunities included home repairs and roofing, visiting children at the local orphanages, assisting with medical clinics, community feedings, revivals, and preaching.

"This was a life changing experience for both Stephen and myself.  We had the privilege to share Christ's love with the people we came in contact with and I was blessed in ways that are hard to explain by the love that was shown towards us in return.  These are people that are beautiful both inside and out.  They have so little, and yet they love others so much, it is certainly a lesson we can all learn from.

I think the whole trip came down to one moment for me.  After a hard morning of work in blistering heat, we had packed up our materials and were heading to another site further up the mountain to access our next job.  I was tired and struggling up the trail when a 17 year old young man named Anderson who had been helping me for a while, literally got behind me and lifted my heavy burden off of my back so I could get up the trail.   There was no expectation of something in return there was just a genuine love for the Lord and people there that prompted him to help me.  The thing was, and I was convinced of this going in, we were going to minister to them, and what really happened is we spent a week ministering to each other."  Coach Troxell

Williamson College Alumni Soccer Players Return to Continue a Great Tradition

A great Williamson tradition continued at last Saturday's Homecoming festivities as seventeen alumni came back to take on the varsity in the annual game between past great and current standouts.   It once again was a battle that went down the end and made for a great event for all who participated or watched it.

For each of the past five years, the annual alumni versus varsity soccer game has been a true battle down to the wire.  This year's game was no exception.  The varsity scored three times in the first half and then had to hang on in the end as they defeated the alumni team, 3-2.

The alumni team usually is stacked full of past greats from throughout the history of Williamson soccer and were again this year.  From the only All-American in school history, Sean O'Donnell to elder statesman Kevin Ryan from 9W6, the alumni combined to give the varsity a scare yet again.  The varsity won the game in 2015 on penalty kicks however the alums won three straight from 2012-14.

The alumni who were able to come back and participate in this year's game were the following:

Pete Achuff 1W0, Aaron Marr 1W6, Jonathan Van Fossen 1W0, Mike Messina 1W6, Eric Goodworth 1W6, Alex Hutchison 1W5, Pete Zwolak 0W7, Daulton Weit 1W4, Rich Kelly 0W8, Kevin Ryan 9W6, Sean O'Donnell 1W4, Pat Forrest 0W9, Mike McClellan 0W7, Andrew Abrams 1W2, Anthony Mondi 0W9, Dan Armes 0W9, and Ryan Dalterio 0W9

A special thanks go out to each of them for helping to make the game so special.
