Former All-American Schizas Signs Professional Contract

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich.—Stavros Schizas enjoyed one of the most memorable careers in the history of Rochester College basketball during his two years as a Warrior. Schizas looks to continue his success on the court as the former honorable mention NAIA all-american performer has signed a professional contract to play in Greece's top professional division.

Schizas arrived at RC after spending two years at Kirtland Community College. The 6'5" guard won a USCAA national championship during his junior year and was named first team USCAA all-american and first team All-A.I.I. his senior year. He averaged 19.2 points/game and 6.6 rebounds/game including a career-high 32-point performance vs. Wilberforce.

Warriors head coach Klint Pleasant knew that Stavros was a special player early on and isn't surprised that he has been signed to play professionally. "I think Stav is arguably the most complete player that's played here. There is nothing on the floor that he couldn't do. He had a fantastic career here and I hope it set the stage for a long and successful career overseas," said Pleasant.

After spending two weeks in training camp with EuroLeague power Olympiacos, Schizas has been traded and signed by Rethymno Aegean B.C.  out of Rethymno, Crete.

Rethymno B.C.  was founded in 1986 and was a finalist in the Greek Cup in the 2006-2007 season. Notable former Rethymno players include former University of Michigan alum Brent Petaway and University of Louisville alum Larry O'Bannon.

Although Schizas was an all-american on the court, Pleasant is most proud of him off the court. "Stav is an even better human being than he is a basketball player. He carried himself with class and also earned his degree. He stuck around after he graduated and worked with the underclassmen which spoke a lot about his commitment to the program and our basketball family. He is the consummate student-athlete," said Pleasant.
