Wells Fargo Advisors Supports Education Through $10,000 Gift to the Central Penn College of Education Foundation

On December 17, 2014, representatives from Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC presented the Central Penn College Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, with a $10,000 gift to benefit need-based student scholarships.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide this gift to fund scholarships for worthy students at Central Penn College,” states Jennifer Buehler, managing director – investments with Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC in Lemoyne, Pa.

The generous donation will support the creation of an endowed scholarship fund in the name of Wells Fargo Advisors. The donation will also be acknowledged through room recognition in Central Penn’s new state-of-the-industry health sciences building on the college’s Summerdale campus. Roger Barilani, senior vice president and complex manager at Wells Fargo Advisors, along with Buehler and Jeffery Barnes, first vice president and branch manager at Wells Fargo Advisors, presented the check to the education foundation.

“The scholarships made possible by Wells Fargo Advisors will change our students’ lives,” says Matt Lane, executive director of the Central Penn College Education Foundation. “The education foundation’s mission is to remove financial barriers for motivated, service-minded students so they can continue their studies. Scholarships awarded through the Wells Fargo Advisors endowment fund will help our students earn their degrees, enter their chosen career fields and become contributing members of society.

A total of 200 scholarships were awarded to deserving students through the foundation in 2014; Wells Fargo Advisors’ gift contributed to the $1,442,718 raised by the foundation in 2014. Since the foundation began distributing scholarships in 2005, the organization has awarded more than 1,000 student scholarships, totally more than $750,000.

DeRose Hired as New Men’s Lacrosse Coach

Jim DeRose, a longtime fixture in the Delaware County lacrosse scene, has been hired as the new head men's lacrosse coach at Williamson.  He takes over for former head coach Cullen Burke who was forced to step down due to increased work responsibilities at his full-time job.

DeRose comes to Williamson with a wealth of coaching experience.  After starting out his career as an assistant boy's lacrosse coach at Springfield (Delco) High School, he moved on to become an assistant coach for the men's program at Widener University. After a year as an assistant at Widener, he was elevated to head coach for the university where he remained as head coach for 5 seasons.

After his time at Widener, DeRose went back into the high school world where he was the head coach at Strath Haven High School for 5 season.  He next went back into the college world where he founded the men's lacrosse program at Delaware County Community College and was the head coach for 3 seasons before the school was forced to drop lacrosse due to a lack of funding.

From DCCC, DeRose went back into high school coaching yet again where he was the head coach at Cardinal O'Hara High School for 12 years from 2002-13.  He stepped down from that position at the end of the 2013 season.

Known as one of the top lacrosse minds in Delaware County, DeRose has experienced success at every stop he has made.  Williamson athletic director Dale Plummer clearly is expecting that to be the case yet again during his time at Williamson.

"Everybody we talked to about Jim had nothing but great things to say about him as a coach, but more importantly as a person and a leader of young men as well.

"Clearly he is an incredibly talented coach and it is that combined with his leadership abilities and the respect he commands that makes this a great fit for Williamson.

"We lost a great deal to graduation last year but there is no doubt that with Coach DeRose at the helm, it won't be long unto we are back to where we want to be as far as being a force in the NCLL (National Collegiate Lacrosse League) goes."

As far as DeRose goes, he is thrilled to be coming on board.

"I've known about Williamson for a long time as we used to rent Williamson's field when I was coaching at Delaware County.  The school has an incredible reputation and I am honored to be a part of such a fine institution.

"From a lacrosse standpoint I don't know where things stand at this point but our guys will work hard, be well coached and be outstanding representatives of the school both on and off the field."

What People Are Saying on the Hiring of New Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Jim DeRose:

Former Williamson head lacrosse coach Brian Burke:

"I could not be more excited about the hiring of Coach DeRose.  He is a coaching legend!  He coached me back in high school for the Keystone games and is an awesome coach.  This is an incredible hire for Williamson

Former Williamson head lacrosse coach Cullen Burke:

"The hiring of Coach DeRose is great news!  I played for him at the Keystone Games and he was awesome.  A great move in bringing him onboard."

Williamson graduate and former head coach Jeff Stott 0W0 who lead Williamson to back-to back NCLL title games as head coach in 2004 and 2005:

"It is great to see a program and a school I love be in the hands of someone like Coach DeRose.  I wish him and the team nothing but the very best.

USCAA Scheduling Message Board

The USCAA has created an all-new scheduling message board. This board will allow USCAA coaches to talk directly with one another to discuss scheduling opportunities, announce open dates, and advertise upcoming tournaments. We know that scheduling can pose difficulties for the small college, and we’re hopeful that this new feature will help bring USCAA schools together and assist in the scheduling process.

The message board has been placed on the USCAA website in each individual sport page under the heading ‘Scheduling Board,’ and can also be accessed via link at the below this story. Each school was distributed one user name and password to access the board. Please check with your athletic director for your institutions login information.
