Terrance & Sayer Post Double-Doubles vs. Pioneers

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team held a slim halftime lead but a strong second half gave visiting Alfred State College a 77-65 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Roos House.
 
The Pioneers (13-4), winners of eight straight, held a dominating 38-18 rebounding edge after halftime including pulling down 19 boards on the offensive glass that led to a 16-6 edge in second chance points.
 
The Roos (5-11) controlled rebounding 29-19 in the opening half as both teams struggled shooting the ball at just 31 (SUNY Canton) and 33 percent (Alfred State), respectively. 
 
Alfred State got out to a quick 6-0 lead but the Roos responded with six straight points of their own to tie the game four minutes in. SUNY Canton held its largest lead of the opening half at seven after a Taylor Saltus (Clintonville, NY) lay-up on the break with 9:35 remaining.  The Roos would take a 32-31 lead into intermission.
 
SUNY Canton's largest advantage of the second half came just 35 seconds in after Brianna Sayer (Hermon, NY) found Caseylynn Fulton (Saint Cloud, MN) for an open three to put the Roos up 35-31.
 
Haley Witchella converted a lay-in 2:48 into the second stanza giving the Pioneers a 37-36 lead, as they would never relinquish it the remainder of the contest. Alfred State extended the lead to nine but SUNY Canton trimmed it to just three at 63-60 with 5:22 remaining after a Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) bucket in the paint.
 
The Pioneers used a 10-1 run in under a two-minute span to earn the 77-65 victory. Saltus paced the Roos with 17 points, a game-high five steals and three assists. Sayer and Terrance both posted double-doubles for SUNY Canton. Terrance finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Terrance added 12 points and 13 rebounds. Fulton nearly accomplished the task posting 13 points and eight boards.
 
Witchella led all scorers with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Jennifer Fedrick added 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Helena Covington had eight points and 11 boards. Briana Meehan also finished in double figures with 18 for the Pioneers.
