#1 Lakers Split Home DH with #8 Cleary

The Wright State Lakers hosted a doubleheader with the #8 ranked team in the USCCAA, Cleary University on Friday afternoon. The Lakers and Cougars played two very tight games, ultimately splitting the doubleheader.

 Wright State Lake Campus and Cleary University passed the lead back-and-forth on Friday, but eventually Cleary University prevailed 3-2. The game was tied at two with Cleary batting in the top of the fifth when Reid Beffrey doubled off of Dan Borchers, driving in the winning run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Cleary University pitchers struck out five, while Borchers allowed only four hits and one walk over seven innings.

Cleary University captured the lead in the first inning, scoring on an error, whiched proved to be vital to the outcome of the game.

Payton Tyndall earned the win for Cleary University. He pitched six innings, surrendering two runs, four hits, and striking out four. Tyler Vaughan recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Cleary University. Borchers took the loss for the Lakers. He went seven innings, giving up two earned runs, four hits, striking out one, and walking one.

Ronaldo Acosta and Jared Knous each drove in one run to lead the Lakers at the plate.

 

Cleary 3 vs Wright State Lake Campus 5

Wright State Lake Campus took home a 5-3 victory over Cleary University on Friday in game two of the doubleheader.

Cleary University took an early lead in the first inning when Reid Beffrey hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.

After Cleary University scored another run in the top of the fourth, the Lakers answered with one of their own. Cleary University, again, scored on an error in the top of the inning. The Lakers then answered when Tristan Becker singled off of Ryan Schaffer, driving in a run.

The Lakers took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third, Jared Knous tripled off of Schaffer, driving in two runs.

Billy Lanman earned the win for Wright State Lake Campus. He threw seven innings, allowing three runs, five hits, striking out four, and walking one. Schaffer took the loss for Cleary University. He tossed six innings, surrendering five runs, and eight hits.

Tyler Venters led the Lakers with two hits in two at bats. 

The Laker Baseball team now sits at 18-9 on the season and is, currently, ranked #1 in the USCAA Coaches Poll.

On Saturday, the Lakers will travel to Cleary for the finale of back-to-back Double-Headers. First pitch of the double-header is scheduled for 1:00p.
