FORT KENT, Me. (January 20, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team returned to form in satisfying fashion on Friday, stringing together a 68-53 win at Maine Fort Kent. The victory ended a three-game losing streak for the Broncos, who improved to 12-7. It was also Delhi's first-ever win over the Bengals in four tries under head coach Vicki Andruszkiewicz.

Delhi's clutch performance Friday came at a pivotal time for the program. After starting the year at 11-4 and being ranked sixth in each of the first four USCAA Division II Coaches' Polls, consecutive defeats last week to College of St. Joseph (98-91), NHTI (78-68) and Fisher (65-51) dropped the Broncos to ninth in this week's rankings. Maine Fort Kent, on the other hand, were ranked tied for seventh in the Division I poll, but now hold a 7-9 record.

Freshman and team double-doubles leader Camryn McDonald tallied her 14th double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds, along with dishing out six assists. Samiaya Salley scored 17 points with seven rebounds and six assists. Diana Echols joined McDonald in the double-double category, scoring 12 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Erica Cornmire connected for ten points, while Katie Herba had seven points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Salley, a sophomore who now has 849 career points, inched herself closer to the 1,000-point milestone. Only Jennifer LePinnet-Clark (2002-04) has ever reached the feat in two years as a Bronco.

The Broncos led the entire game, scoring the first eight points of the contest, and even stretching their lead to as much as 17 points in the third quarter. The closest the Bengals ever came to the lead was to within three points at 10-7 in the first quarter. Delhi responded by closing out the period with nine straight points.

Delhi held a commanding 47-28 advantage in rebounds, and outshot MFK from the floor, 47.5 percent (28-for-59) to 28.8 percent (19-for-66). The Broncos also took a 40-20 lead in points in the paint, a 20-2 lead in fastbreak points and a 21-9 advantage in points off turnovers off 17 MFK turnovers.

The next test for Delhi is a home contest against Alfred State on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Floyd L. Maines Arena.
