Cold Shooting Haunts Brandywine In Loss To Mont Alto

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine was limited to just 29 percent shooting and suffered an 80-52 PSUAC men's basketball loss to Penn State Mont Alto on Wednesday night.

The Lions fell behind by 17 at halftime after hitting 10-of-36 field goal attempts during the first half and connected on just 3-of-25 shots from beyond the arc during the game.

Mont Alto led 11-0 through two minutes of play, but saw its lead cut to eight following a three-pointer from Anthony Costa (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) at the 12:13 mark.

Mont Alto answered with the next seven points and pushed its lead to 21 before settling for a 17-point edge after 20 minutes as Mohamad Shnawer (Philadelphia, Pa./George Washington Carver) and Naifes Smalls (Philadelphia, Pa./PE&T Charter) sank baskets during the final 20 seconds to slice into the deficit.

Brandywine would never get closer than 17 in the second half as Mont Alto opened the frame with six-straight points and pushed its lead past 30 at the midway point.

Terrance Quinn (Havertown, Pa./Radnor) scored eight points to lead Brandywine, while Chirs Abbonizio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) pulled down eight boards and Smalls registered five rebounds and five assists. Shnawer blocked five shots and added six points and four boards.

Brandywine opens a four-game road swing Sunday at Penn State New Kensington (1:00 pm).
