Alvernia Ends Lions' Win Streak At Five Games

READING, Pa. -- Alvernia handed the Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team its first loss in nearly one month as the Golden Wolves claimed a 4-1 victory over the Lions Wednesday night.

Brandywine goalkeeper Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) was tested all night, notching a season-high 15 saves, including a stop on Lauren Gough's penalty kick in the 49th minute.

Gough had given Alvernia a 1-0 lead at the 34:39 mark of the first half. Just 44 seconds after Bush stopped the penalty kick try, the Golden Wolves added to their lead with a score from Melissa Stahl.

Brandywine trailed 3-0 when Averie Florschutz (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) netted the Lions' goal, connecting on a penalty kick with just under 23 minutes to go in regulation. Alvernia tacked on an insurance goal in the 82nd minute to account for the final margin.

Brandywine was limited to seven shots, while the Golden Wolves collected 28 shot attempts. Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) recorded four shots for the Lions.

Brandywine (5-4, 4-0 PSUAC) is on the road Saturday afternoon for a PSUAC matchup at Penn State Schuylkill beginning at 1:00 pm.
