Brandywine Completes Season Sweep Of Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine finished off a season sweep of Penn State Mont Alto as the Lions swept Mont Alto for the second time during a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-19) romp on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine (15-3 overall) has won all 12 of its PSUAC matches by 3-0 scores this fall, while Mont Alto dropped to 9-2 in league play with both losses coming at the hands of Brandywine.

The Lions took advantage of five Mont Alto errors to build a 6-0 lead during the opening set. Mont Alto pulled to within one at 11-10, but Nicole Costa's (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby) kills started a string of four-straight Brandywine points as the Lions ran away with the set.

Mont Alto kept set No. 2 close through 20 points, but a pair of kills from Halee Kusner (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and one by Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) helped Brandywine built a five-point edge. Later, Mont Alto was within three, but three consecutive errors allowed Brandywine to take the set 25-19.

The first point of the final set went to Mont Alto, but Brandywine reeled off eight of the next nine points. Poissant's three-straight aces gave Brandywine a comfortable six-point edge and Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) finished off Mont Alto with an ace, her third of the day.

Biondi also tallied 14 digs and 29 assists, while Kim Russo (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) topped the team with 16 digs. Kelsi Wiest (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) added 12 digs and Costa provided four blocks.

Poissant set down a team-high 12 kills, while Kusner registered eight.

Brandywine is idle until next Saturday when it hosts its annual Dig Pink Weekend with quad matches against Penn State New Kensington and Penn State Fayette.
