Brandywine Takes Two At Schuylkill

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine remained undefeated against PSUAC foes by claiming a pair of matches by 3-0 scores at Penn State Schuylkill on Wednesday night. Brandywine claimed the first match by scores of 25-5, 25-14, 25-9 and took the nightcap 25-7, 25-8, 25-8.

The Lions (11-3, 9-0), who were ranked 13th by the USCAA in the first national rankings released earlier in the week, have not dropped a set in nine conference matches this fall.

Halee Kusner (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) topped all players with five kills during the opening match, while Nicole Costa (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby) and Molly Nichols (Lenni, Pa./Penncrest) both tallied four.

Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) registered 15 assists and a team-best four aces during the opener and added 11 more helpers during match No. 2.

On the defensive side, Brandywine collected 18 blocks, led by Costa and Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter), who each recorded four. Nichols added three blocks, while Kusner, Kirsten Jerla (Springfield, Pa./Notre Dame) and Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) all had two.

Kim Russo (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) led the way with 20 digs during the pair of contests and Kelsi Wiest (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) totaled 12.

Kusner again paced Brandywine during match No. 2, accumulating six kills, while Costa added four kills along with four aces and three blocks. The Lions, who tallied 24 aces, also received four from Kelsey Zober (Havertown, Pa./Haverford).

Brandywine returns home Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm for a match versus Penn State York. The Lions will be looking for a season sweep of York after claiming a 3-0 triumph on Sept. 16.
